“水墨之上”——2018·第四届昆明美术双年展章程
Beyond the Ink Wash-Regulations of the 4th Kunming Art Biennale 2018
始创于2012年的昆明美术双年展，是经云南省文化和旅游厅批准、云南省财政厅拨款支持的一项具有国际视野的大型艺术展览活动。已于2012年、2014年、2016年相继举办了三届
。短短数年间，参展的国家和地区已从本省扩展到全国，并辐射至南亚、东南亚、东亚、西亚等18个国家和地区。参展艺术家累计300余人，观众累计超过100,000人次。昆明美术
双年展采用中国策展团队与国际策展人相结合的策展方式，坚持具有地域特色的国际性策划理念，旨在打造当代国际艺术与中国文化交流的平台。
Initiated in 2012, Kunming Art Biennale is an international art exhibition, ratified by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and funded
by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Finance. Biennales have been successively held in 2012, 2014, and 2016. As a platform of art, the Biennale supports
cultural communication among South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, West Asia and China, with audience of over 100,000 domestic and international
individuals. The Biennale exhibits 300 artists from 18 countries and regions. In order to construct a regional and cross-cultural platform, Kunming Art
Biennale’s curatorial team involves both Chinese curatorial committees and international curators.
本次展览共邀请了国内及南亚、东南亚、东亚、西亚等18个国家和地区的52位现当代艺术家，运用水墨、宣纸、毛笔等中国传统媒材，将不同的艺术理念介入其中，诠释了水墨艺
术的多元可能。
Kunming Art Biennale, 2018 will attract 51 contemporary artists from 18 countries and regions in South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia and West Asia. Chinese
ink and Xuan paper, typically representing traditional Chinese culture, are taken as the main tools to create artworks for this biennale, with the purpose of
integrating artists’ concept and Chinese traditional art forms, creating artworks implicated.

Theme: Beyond the Ink Wash
主题释义：第四届昆明美术双年展的主题是：水墨之上。本次双年展，将展示中国传统文化对南亚、东南亚的深刻影响，凸显“一带一路”倡议，及构建人类命运共同体的中国文
化的贡献。众所周知，与中国南部比邻的南亚、东南亚国家，自古受到中国传统文化的影响。一些国家有相当比例的华裔，人口众多，至今仍有不少华裔侨居于南亚、东南亚。现
在，南亚、东南亚许多国家至今仍保留着中国传统文化远古时的文化遗风，甚至一些生活方式、思维习惯都与中国传统文化有着千丝万缕的渊源和传承发展。近代以来，南亚、东
南亚一些国家也曾受到以欧美为中心的全球化影响，因而在社会经济发展、民族民俗、文化或宗教上，使这一热带、亚热带地域形成了日益多元的文化兼容现象。
Interpretation of the theme: The theme of the 4th Kunming Art Biennale 2018 is "Beyond the Ink Wash". This Biennale will show the profound influence of
Chinese traditional culture on South Asia and Southeast Asia and highlight the Belt and Road Initiative and the contribution of Chinese culture to the
community of shared future for mankind. Adjacent to southern China, South Asia, and Southeast Asia have been historically influenced by traditional Chinese
culture. Many Chinese migrants have been living in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Nowadays, South Asia and Southeast Asia still maintain the heritage of
Chinese culture including their lifestyles and philosophy. Recently, South and Southeast Asia have been influenced by globalization profoundly, thereby
promoting the formation of a more diverse and inclusive social economical phenomenon regarding ethnic custom, culture, and religions.
此次双年展，以中国书法、水墨艺术为文化载体，通过中国传统水墨文化艺术的典型品种在南亚、东南亚各国的传播、接受和本土再造，呈现南亚、东南亚各国的中国传统水墨艺
术创作，同时也可以看到中国传统水墨艺术在南亚、东南亚地区的承传、再造与发展。毋庸讳言，20世纪以来，南亚、东南亚各国的社会经济发展基本是以欧美现代化进程为样本
而进行的，这逐渐开始的现代社会发展也带有欧美文化全球化的身影。
The Biennale will take Chinese calligraphy and ink art as the cultural carrier, presenting traditional Chinese ink art by artists from South Asia and
Southeast Asia where the Chinese traditional ink-painting art is inherited, reconstructed and developed. Needless to say, since the 20th century, South Asia
and Southeast Asia has been following Europe and America’s of economic development. Modernization in South Asia and Southeast Asia also reflects the
globalization of Europe and America.
第四届昆明美术双年展览，以汉语文化艺术的典型表征——书法与水墨作为展览的主要元素或媒介，就是为了清晰突显中国传统文化和南亚、东南亚文化中的渊源，加强沟通联系
。通过让这些国家的当代重要艺术家以水墨、书法为元素或媒介而展开的当代艺术创作，共同在以水墨艺术为代表的中国传统文化艺术发展中不断创新，彰显水墨艺术的历史文脉
与当代价值，谱写人类命运共同体新的艺术篇章。
Calligraphy and ink, typically representing Chinese language and culture are taken as the main elements and media of the 4th Kunming Art Biennale. They
clearly indicate the origin of Chinese traditional culture and South Asia and Southeast Asia culture and strengthen their connection. By integrating
traditional Chinese art, ink, and calligraphy into their creation, prominent artists will illustrate the historical and contemporary value of ink art and
compose a new chapter for a community of shared future of mankind.
水墨为上，是中国文人画以水墨作为老子、庄子艺术思想最集中的体现，不同于色彩、工笔、客观描绘而形成的写意传统，水墨也就形成了中国绘画最典型的艺术形态。本届双年
展以此为主题，强调“水墨之上”的东南亚各国各民族对于这种艺术载体与艺术元素的历史承传、本土再造与当代创新。
The goal of ink wash painting is not to simply reproduce the color or appearance of the subject, but to capture its spirit. Since ink wash painting is often
considered to be the manifestation of the artistic ideas of Laozi and Zhuangzi (representatives of Taoism), it naturally becomes the most typical art form in
Chinese painting. The 4th Biennale, titled Beyond the Ink Wash, emphasizes the historical heritage, local reconstruction and contemporary innovation of the
artistic carrier and elements in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
水墨之上，成为南亚、东南亚当代文化圈鲜明艺术标识。
Beyond the Ink Wash will become an important piece of art in the contemporary cultural circle of South Asia and Southeast Asia.
水墨之上，凸显了超越水墨之上的共同精神家园建设。
Beyond the Ink Wash will contribute to the construction of a common spiritual home beyond the ink wash painting.
参展艺术家与作品要求
Requirements for Participating Artists and Works
昆明美术双年展参展作品来自南亚、东南亚，遴选各参展国具有影响力的艺术家及其代表作品。展览以绘画和书法作品为主。
Kunming Art Biennale will select representative works by influential artists from South Asia and Southeast Asia. Exhibits will mainly consist of paintings
and calligraphies.
1、昆明美术双年展的作品由征集和特邀两部分组成：特邀作品由策划委员会确定;自由投稿作品在全世界范围内征集。
1. Biennale exhibited works will be divided by collection and specially invitation. The Curatorial Committee will determine the specially invited works,
while free submissions are collected worldwide.
2、参评作品应为近5年来创作的，应注重美学品位和艺术质量。作者不得擅自更换入选作品，更换作品需经策委会通过，策委会有权拒绝作者更换作品参展的要求。
2. Participating works should be created over the last 5 years having high aesthetics and artistic quality. Without permission,artist cannotchange the work
once selected. Any change should ask for the Curatorial Committee to approve. The Curatorial Committee has the right to reject the artist’s request to
change the exhibit.
3、创作媒材由组办方提供，统一为四尺宣纸138×69cm，共计20张。宣纸可作为艺术家练习、创作的媒材。作品尺寸不受限，可用宣纸自由组合完成。例如，两张宣纸拼接在一起
为138×138cm，以此类推。艺术家创作作品类型不限，可用水墨媒材创作架上绘画、新媒体、雕塑、装置等多元化艺术表现形式,所有作品的展示形式需适应场馆布展的可操作性。
如有特殊要求,参展作者需在2018年 10月前与组委会联系。
3. All exhibits should be completed with materials provided by the organizer. The materials include ink and 20 pieces of Xuan paper (the size of each is
138cm*69cm). There is no limitation on the size of works. You can piece the papers together if you need (for example two pieces of Xuan papers together will
make 138*138CM). There is also no limitation on ways of creations. Artists are allowed to create their exhibits in various art forms, such as painting, new
media, carving and installation. Participating artistswith any special requirement should contact the OrganizingCommittee before October 2018.
4、组委会有权拒绝与作品信息表所填不符，超尺寸及重量，有噪音，霉变，散发有害气体，漏液，无法运输，无法布展或被认为对观众和场馆有危害的作品原件展出。
4. The Organizing Committee has the right to reject works that are inconsistent with the information given in forms, or that are oversized, overweight,
noisy, mildewed, smelly, toxic, leaking, difficult to transport, unable to arrange for exhibition, or dangerous to visitors and the venue.
5、已入选作品一旦被发现涉及有关历史遗留等敏感问题，组委会任何时候都有权立即取消其在该展中的入选、展览及出版、参会等所有资格。相关事宜的解释权归组委会。
5. If the selected work is involved in any sensitive issue such as unsettled historical problems, the Organizing Committee has the right to disqualify it
from selection, exhibition, publication or participation into the seminar. The Organizing Committee reserves the right of interpretation of relevant matters.
参展办法及有关日程安排
Measures for Participation and Schedule
1、每位作者提交3件以内作品的图像资料供策委会评选。
1. Each artist should submit the pictures of no more than 3 works to the Curatorial Committee for selection.
表格填写务必清楚，不漏项，所有内容除签名外需全部电脑填写后打印，报送材料逾期将不被接受。
All the blanks in the form should be filled in clearly. All the contents should be typed on the computer except signatures and then printedout. Overdue
materials will not be accepted.
作者登记表请附2寸彩色个人照片2张及同版电子版个人照片，电子版照片需能满足印刷需要(不小于1兆)。
Participating artists should attach 2 personal color photos of two inches to the registration form.The electronic version of the photo should be no smaller
than 1 megabyte for print.
2、2018年9月15日之前将亲笔签名的表格寄到昆明美术双年展办公室(地址见“十二、联系方式”)，供策委会评选。请留好快递单号，方便查询。
2. Please send the registration form with the handwritten signature to KunmingArt Biennale Office(cf. XII. Contact) by September 15, 2018 for curators to
select. Please keep the courier number for convenience.
所有参选资料一律不退。
Norelated material will be returned.
3、无须交纳报名及参展费等任何费用。
3. No registration or participation fee, etc. will be charged.
4、2018年10月底，评委会依据作品向境外入选艺术家代表寄发邀请函等。
4. The Curatorial Committee will send invitation letters to overseas artists based on selected works by the end of October 2018.
5、组委会保留以下权利：自由展示特邀及入选作品，有权对参展作品进行自由拍照并公开免费使用该照片，公开免费使用作者署在报名表及网站上的个人信息，用于展览的国内外
宣传、画册等公开出版。
5. The Organizing Committee reserves the following rights: freely displaying specially invited and selected works, taking photos of the exhibits, using the
photos free of charge, publicly and freely using the personal information of artists filled in the registration form and on website for domestic and foreign
promotion of the exhibition and the publication of albums, etc.
参展作品装裱、包装、运输与保险
Mounting,Packing, Transportation and Insurance of Works
1、组委会负担境外参展作品的往返运费。
1. The Organizing Committee covers the cost of round-trip freight for overseas works.
2、入选作品往返运输中的投保费由参展作者自行承担，作品在展览期间的保险由组委会统一投保。
2. The artists cover the cost of the insurance premiums during round-trip transportation of selected works.The Organizing Committee covers the insurance
during the exhibition.
3、境外作者须按要求将参展作品包装好交给组委会指定的运输代理，包装箱外需写清组委会告知的参展编号，运输代理不负责上门取件。
3. Overseas artists should, as required, pack and submit the exhibits to the transport agent designated by the Organizing Committee. The exhibiting number
notified by the Organizing Committee should be written on the outside ofall packages. The transport agent does not provide door-to-door pickup service.
4、所有参展作品(含特展作品)如因自行包装不善导致在运输过程中受损，因自身不稳定或不牢固发生破损、脱落、变形及其他变化，或在自行运输过程中使作品受损，组委会将及
时通知作者，但不承担任何责任。
4. The Organizing Committee will notify the artist in time but will assume no responsibility if any exhibit (including special exhibitions) is damaged during
transportation due to its instability, poor self-packaging, falls off, deformed or any change.
5、参展作品由组委会负责退件。国外入选作品未通过指定运输代理而送至组委会的，组委会不负责退件，确需组委会退件的，需在2018年9月15日前与组委会商议。
5. The Organizing Committee will be responsible for returning the exhibits. If the selected works abroad are not sent to the Organizing Committee through the
transport agent designated, the Organizing Committee will not be responsible for the returning. If the artists were to ask the Organizing Committee to return
the works, please discuss with the committee before September 15, 2018.

Works Collection andPublicity Materials
1、作品集：彩色精印889mm×1194mm，1/12。除所有参展作品外，还将收入作者简介、作品说明等文字内容。每位参展作者获赠两本。
1. Works Collection: Color print with the size of 889mm×1194mm,1/12. The collection will include not only all exhibits,but also the brief introductions of
the artists, descriptions of works and other texts. Each exhibitor will receive two copies of the collection.
2、导览册、贴心手册。3、彩色海报。4、开幕式及研讨会请柬。

研讨会
Seminar
1、展览开幕后举办为期1天的中英文同声传译国际研讨会。
1. After the opening ceremony, a one-day international seminar with simultaneous interpretation in Chinese and English will be held.
2、邀请策划委员和中外参展者及国内外有影响的批评家、策展人、学者等参加。
2. Thecuratorial committee members, exhibition participants, as well as influential critics, curators and scholars from home and abroad will be invited.
3、国际学术研讨会：多元文化之中的水墨艺术
International academic seminar: The Art of Ink Wash Painting in Multicultural Context
4、2018年10月30日前，入选展览的艺术家应将对研讨会的回执反馈组委会，以便确定主旨发言代表及来昆参会人员。组织者负担入选展览及研讨会的部分国外艺术家在昆约3天的
食宿及交通费，如确需家属随行,其签证手续及一切费用自理。
4. Before October 30, 2018, the artists selected for the exhibition should submit the return receipt of the seminar to the Organizing Committee for the
determination of the keynote speech representatives and the seminar participants. The organizers will cover the three-day accommodation in Kunming and
transportation expenses for some foreign artists who have been selected to the exhibition and the seminar. If companions are invited by the artists, the
visas and expenses hereof should be borne by themselves.
捐赠作品
Works Donation
组委会接受无偿自由捐赠，艺术家如自愿捐赠参展作品，请在作品登记表最后一栏标注并签名，捐赠作品需为参展作品原件，组委会将向捐赠艺术家颁发收藏证书,并在适当时候举
办捐赠作品展。
The Organizing Committee accepts voluntary donation. If the artist is willing to donate the exhibits, please mark and sign at the end of the registration
form. The works donated should be the exhibited one. The Organizing Committee will issue certificates to the artists and organize exhibition for the
donations.
